Holiday Food Safety

Preparing for the holidays can be both fun and challenging.

Watch this video to learn the best ways to prepare a holiday meal and tips to balance your food choices.

When preparing your holiday meal, remember:

  • Don’t wash raw turkey in the sink or prepare it near any other foods. Prepare your turkey on a cleared counter so no other foods can be contaminated and put you and your guests at risk for salmonella poisoning.
  • Keep leftovers refrigerated  in small containers for no more than 3-4 days. Use the oven when reheating any proteins instead of the microwave.
  • Provide healthy options, and balance your meal by filling half your plate with fruits and vegetables.
